A Night in Rome

by Sally Rowland Rome is the perfect city for a romantic weekend break away. However if you're only going for a weekend, you will need to plan your time carefully to make the most of it! I have put together a guide on a night in Rome to give you some ideas of how you can spend an evening in the glamorous city. The best way to start an evening out in Rome is to eat at one of the many magnificent restaurants. The best restaurant in Rome (as voted for by Zagat) is the Vivendo which is located in the St Regis Grand Hotel. The restaurant is very sophisticated (so the dress code is smart) and it has been decorated in a 40s style with wall hangings and Roman columns. The head chef is Chef Francesco Donatelli whose signature dish is sautéed scallops with asparagus and black olive pate in a seafood sauce. However, this restaurant is not cheap so if you're looking for something a bit less extravagant then there are plenty of authentic pizzerias on the streets of Rome. Next you could visi...

Thai Silk - traditional, beautiful and timeless

by Pushpitha Wijesinghe Bangkok is intermingling of something old and something new, between its mega malls and endless streets full of shopping avenues lay relics and powerful reminders of the past. Thailand is referred to as a 'land of smiles', and its capital is its powerhouse. Bangkok beckons people from all walks of life, and wallets of varying sizes. Known to be one of the most travelled to and most desired tourist destinations, Bangkok won't disappoint you. Of the many wonderful things to appreciate about this nation in all her unrestrained glory is their world renowned Thai silk. The origins of silk itself was set to have come from China. Empress Si Ling Chi was seated under a Mulberry tree in her garden when a silkworm cocoon fell in to her tea cup, and while she was removing it, she noticed that fine strands of silk thread that unravelled as she pulled. Silk is known to have been around for over 3,000 years. Traditional Thai silk comes from a silkworm known as Bom...
